In civil-military relations, the focus is generally on the domestic variables. This is mainly because that this type of relations can be described as special type of bureaucratic politics. It is simply, two bureaucratic groups are competing or clashing over the political powers. The main hypothesis is that the foreign relations of Egypt have significant impact on the civil-military relations inside Egypt. This impacts are usually in favor of the military. The study reviewed the hypothesis by examining the foreign relations of Egypt during different periods which represents different political regimes adopting variant foreign policy orientations. As the Egyptian regime is mixture of military and personal rule, the periods of study are divided according to presidents. In each period the foreign policy orientation of the president is examined and the direct effects on the civil-military relations in that period is analysed in order to conclude clear patterns of impacts. The study focuses on Egypt's relations with United States and Soviet Union and later Russia in international level. Also it focuses on Egypt's relations with Israel and Gulf countries especially Saudi Arabia and UAE.

Much has been written on civil-military relations, however, very little research has been produced on democratic civil-military relations in Namibia since independence. This thesis is a study of how Namibia took the path of democratic civil-military relations that have ensured civil control over the military. The research was informed by examining the generally held assumptions about civil-military relations as espoused in the literature to better understand the phenomenon of civil-military relations in Namibia that has ensured civil supremacy over the military. In this regard, the study was a qualitative method of research. This method helped to describe the concepts of civil-military relations using the guiding theoretical framework and thereafter helped to examine civil-military relations being applied in Namibia. One of the findings of the research was that civil-military relations in Namibia are characterised by Western liberal civil-military relations traditions. The nature of civil-military relations in Namibia was influenced by factors such as historical legacy, the liberation struggle experience and the international context that shaped the Namibian state.

Reforming Civil-Military Relations in New Democ...

This book addresses the challenge of reforming defense and military policy-making in newly democratized nations. By tracing the development of civil-military relations in various new democracies from a comparative perspective, it links two bodies of scholarship that thus far have remained largely separate: the study of emerging (or failed) civilian control over armed forces on the one hand, and work on the roots and causes of military effectiveness to guarantee the protection and security of citizens on the other. The empirical and theoretical findings presented here will appeal to scholars of civil-military relations, democratization and security issues, as well as to defense policy-makers.

Israel-United States military relations have been extremely close, reflecting both shared security interests in the unstable Middle East and the influence of a strong pro-Israel lobby in the United States. Israel is the largest total recipient of direct economic and military assistance from the United States since World War II and it was the largest annual recipient from 1976 to 2003. Since the Iraq War began in 2003, Iraq has overtaken Israel as the largest annual recipient of US aid. A major purchaser and user of US military equipment.

Israel is the largest total recipient of direct economic and military assistance from the United States since World War II, and it was the largest annual recipient from 1976 to 2003. Since the Iraq War began in 2003, Iraq has overtaken Israel as the largest annual recipient of US aid. A major purchaser and user of US military equipment, Israel is also involved in the joint development of military technology and regularly engages in joint military exercises involving United States and other friendly forces. The relationship has deepened gradually over time, though, as Alan Dowty puts it, it was "not a simple linear process of growing cooperation, but rather a series of tendentious bargaining situations with different strategic and political components in each."
