An elite squadron of space commandos battles against the deadliest dangers the galaxy has to offer, in this second novel of an action-packed military science fiction series. In 2047, as the first Earth base on Mars became operational, our planet was contacted by an alien culture. We humans learned with stunning suddenness that Earth was only a small pawn in a vast galactic conflict being waged between three great empires, each including hundreds of star systems. All three were primarily human in nature - and in fact there were suggestions that Earth was once a part of these empires, prior to a calamitous war that raged 10,000 years ago. In response to this new threat (and opportunity), the US military establishes a small force of elite commandos trained for combat in space. Drawn from the Navy SEALs, the new warriors are termed SEALS (representing expertise in Sea, Air, Land, and Space operations). In 2050, they are just completing training aboard a new space station when trouble strikes - on Mars, where the Earth governments have by now established a series of research stations and outposts. The small detachment of SEALS, under Lieutenant Thomas (Stonewall) Jackson, travel to Mars aboard America´s first military spaceship, the USSS Pegasus. They overcome ambush and sabotage to disrupt an operation aimed at breaking Earth´s hold upon Mars - but in the process, Jackson and a small group of his men (together with a couple of civilians) are captured by troops of a hostile empire (the Eluoi) and taken to another star system. Once there, the SEALS manage to escape and raise considerable havoc among the Eluoi. Their mission objectives: Find a way to send a message back to Earth, and stay alive long enough for Pegasus to come and extricate them. It is not an easy task. 1. Language: English. The weather was appalling and the seas of the English Channel distinctly stormy, but by bravely taking the initiative the Allies were able to liberate France and march towards Berlin and victory. As a military operation, ´´Overlord” was strategically successful, but on a personal level there are many remarkable stories of courage and heroism: The acquisition of Pegasus Bridge, the wonderful welcome given by the newly liberated French, the brave rangers at Pointe du Hoc, the desperate battle for ´´Omaha” beach and the extraordinary Piper Bill Millin who played his bagpipes, waist deep in water, all the way from the landing craft to shore, and then onwards inland, through France. This was a combined offensive where Army, Navy and RAF worked side-by-side, as Allied servicemen from all corners of the globe became comrades in arms. The History JournalsWe create enlightening history books for people looking to learn about topics in a quick study guide format. An adventure across space and time! Shroud of Eden by Marlin Desault Evolved Publishing presents the first book in the Panhelion Chronicles. This military science fiction series features space travel, time warps, alien species, and war on a grand galaxy scale. [DRM-Free] While on maneuvers as part of the Panhelion Defense Command fleet near the moons of Jove, Scott Drumond, captain of the Strike Cruiser Targelion, finds his promising career unexpectedly blighted by events that nearly destroy his starship and dramatically change his fortunes. Scott´s nemesis arranges his court martial on trumped-up charges, and the court finds him guilty. They order him demoted with the stipulation that he is forbidden to hold a command assignment. His one chance for redemption comes when a sympathetic admiral transfers him to Exploration Command, and offers him a seemingly trivial mission to investigate an anomaly in the Hyades star cluster. Scott accepts temporary captaincy of the scout corvette Pegasus with the hope of restoring his honor and permanent rank. His assignment turns out to be anything but routine when, upon reaching the anomaly, he and his crew encounter a startling distortion in space-time that creates a barrier to material objects. With the first part of his mission complete, he opens sealed orders and learns of scheming and deception in the highest levels of the Panhelion. By means of a clever gambit, Scott finds an opening in the barrier and chances passage to the far side, where he uncovers the truth about a legendary ghost ship and a lost colony of humans. As he comes to know more about this society of refugees, their strange customs intrigue and baffle him. But his most important find comes when he discovers they hold the secret to a long forgotten weapon, which can defeat a despot at home and turn the tide in battle against alien invaders swarming out of the Coma Bernices star cluster. 1.
