Pablo Larrain: The Collection

zzgl. 1,49 € Versand

Collection of six films by Chilean director Pablo Larraín. In 'Fuga' (2006) a classical composer descends into madness after the memories of his sister's rape and murder revisit him. In the confines of a mental institution, he attempts to write a composition on the walls. When his work is stolen by a music student, grave consequences ensue. In 'Tony Manero' (2008) a man becomes obsessed with emulating John Travolta's character in the film 'Saturday Night Fever' (1977). Completely immersed in the character of Tony Manero, Raul Peralta (Alfredo Castro) commits increasingly brutual crimes driven by the urge to win an impersonation contest. In 'Post Mortem' (2010) morgue worker Mario (Castro) is infatuated with his neighbour Nancy (Antonia Zegers), a dancer. When she disappears after a military raid on her home, he hurriedly begins to search for her. In 'No' (2012) dictator Augusto Pinochet initiates a referendum to determine the continuity of his position of power. A young advertising executive René Saavedra (Gael García Bernal) is recruited by the opposition to lead their campaign. In 'The Club' (2015) four exiled Catholic priests now in retirement share an isolated house outside a small beach town, in an attempt to cleanse their souls after committing sins such as child abuse and kidnap. Their stay is soon disturbed by a new priest who joins the four and is followed by his troubled past. Finally, in 'Neruda' (2016), Chilean poet Pablo Neruda (Luis Gnecco) is being chased down by fascist inspector Óscar Peluchonneau (Bernal) for joining the Communist Party in the 1940s. The two strike an unlikely friendship, inspiring Neruda to compose a new collection of poetry.

An intimate, fresh perspective on the most powerful woman in American political history, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, by award-winning political journalist Molly BallShe's the iconic leader who puts Donald Trump in his place, the woman with the toughness to take on a lawless president and defend American democracy. Ever since the Democrats took back the House in the 2018 midterm elections, Nancy Pelosi has led the opposition with strategic mastery and inimitable elan. It's a remarkable comeback for the veteran politician who for years was demonized by the right and taken for granted by many in her own party-even though, as speaker under President Barack Obama, she deserves much of the credit for epochal liberal accomplishments from universal access to health care to saving the US economy from collapse, from reforming Wall Street to allowing gay people to serve openly in the military. How did an Italian grandmother in four-inch heels become the greatest legislator since LBJ?Ball's nuanced, page-turning portrait takes readers inside the life and times of this historic and underappreciated figure. Based on exclusive interviews with the Speaker and deep background reporting, Ball shows Pelosi through a thoroughly modern lens to explain how this extraordinary woman has met her moment.

Was there really an Ark of the Covenant containing the original stone tablets of the 10 Commandments written by God? If so, where is it presently located? Nancy, a biblical historian, believes she knows the location but enlists the help of her boyfriend, Frank, and his elite band of rogue ex-military special forces. Together they formulate a precise plan to steal the Ark from its location in Ethiopia. Already suspicious of the criminal activity of the Banshees, the FBI and Interpol are watching their every move. As Frank and Nancy outline the plan to the Banshees for stealing the Ark, in the Middle East, ISSI has also learned of the Ark's possible location and sends a team of terrorists to locate, steal, or destroy the relic. The adventure takes the listener to the desert of Arizona, the Middle East, and Ethiopia. Meanwhile, the guardian of the Ark continues his daily rituals of caring for the Ark of the Covenant. He knows the powers it possesses. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Megan Meyer. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/acx0/173967/bk_acx0_173967_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.
