Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Richard W. Bock (1865-1949) was an American sculptor and associate of Frank Lloyd Wright. He was particularly known for his sculptural decorations for architecture and military memorials, along with the work he conducted alongside Wright. He was born on July 16, 1865 in Schloppe, Germany but moved to Chicago, Illinois with his family as a youth, where he grew up in German neighborhoods. Three years in school at the Berlin Academy studying with Schaper was followed by more studying at the Ecole des Beaux Arts School in Paris under Alexandre Falguière and then a tour of Florence, Italy. In 1891 he returned to his American hometown of Chicago to establish a permanent sculpture studio downtown. Almost immediately upon Bock''s return to America, he received three major commissions. For the World''s Columbian Exposition in 1893, he sculpted major architectural works for two of the event''s primary buildings, the Mining and Electricity Exposition Halls. He took on a 14-year-old apprentice, James Earle Fraser, who would later design the famous sculpture The End of the Trail and the Buffalo nickel.

Gómez Manrique, Statesman and Poet: The Practic...

Gómez Manrique (c.1412-c.1490) had a long and active life, engaging in military activity as a typical medieval knight before becoming a diplomat and statesman. He was deeply involved in the political turbulence of fifteenth-century Castile, playing an important role in bringing together Fernando of Aragon and the infanta Isabel of Castile whose marriage sealed the union of these two kingdoms. Although Don Gómez has long rested in the shadow of his more famous nephew, Jorge, he produced a larger and more varied corpus of verse: courtly love poetry, elegies, moral and political poetry, verse dialogues with friends, consolatory poems and the first play by a known author in Spanish. This study focuses on the social, economic and political context in which the poet lived and draws comparisons with some other poets who were his contemporaries. Gisèle Earle studied at the University of Oxford and King's College, London, and is now an independent researcher.
